We are still on a high from the final stage, THE FINAL SWIM of ISCHIA, on October, 10th/11th: the perfect ending for the 2020 Challenge, that was as much suffered as it was enjoyed by the Italian Open Water Tour community!
We were able to carry out the 4 historical stages, as we kept “promising” in the long spring of waiting… and here we are, ready to proclaim the winners, this year more than ever, great in both performances and motivation!
Remember that to be part of the final rankings of the Challenge you must have taken part in at least 3 of the 4 stages scheduled.
Camilla Montalbetti (Team Insubrika) and Daniele Savia(Swimmer Inside) are confirmed as winners after the triumph of the 2019 Challenge, giving yet another demonstration of being well-rounded and fierce athletes without ever abandoning unconditional sportsmanship.
Protagonists of a very different 2020 Challenge : for Montalbetti came the consecration with an almost clear path made of all victories in both races of each stage (smile and hard swim) with the exception of the hard swim of Maccagno (where Sara Petrolli won);while for Savia it was the ability to get to the podium in all three races of each stage (four for Ischia) moving flawlessly from the half sea mile to the hard swim.
Noteworthy are the great wins of Carlotta Maffezzoli and the small swimmers of Acqualake Baveno that we find now at the top of the ranking.
Men’s smile swim has a new champion, already in the chronicles of the Italian Open Water Tour in past editions with the Paok Thessaloniki relay team: Mirko Luccarelli, who manages to unify the absolute ranking with the “natural” one, in front of the constant Daniele Savia and Emanuele Costa.
In the special “natural” ranking (with the classic costume) behind Mirko Luccarelli are Emanuele Costa and Daniel Godino, while Emanuele Costa places ahead of Rossano Scarpellini (Team Ratti) and Daniel Godino wins the disputed OVER40 ranking.
Women’s smile swim is literally dominated by Camilla Montalbetti with four wins out of four races ahead of the young and in great ascent Svetlana Bonanomi, both teammates of Team Insubrika, and Samantha Gaspari (Acqua1Village).
Samantha Gaspari triumphs in the special “natural” ranking (with the classic costume) ahead of Zelda Invernizzi and Elena Princivalle, while Sara Casarin (Swimmer Inside) wins the OVER40 ranking ahead of Elena Princivalle and Ekaterina Ayzenberg.
Men’s hard swim has a new dominator, already winner of the 2018 Challenge: Filippo Marchini (Swimmer Inside), who manages to unify the absolute ranking with the “natural” one, in front of the fierce Diego Fedeli and Emanuele Costa.
In the special “natural” ranking behind Filippo Marchini are the indestructible Emanuele Costa and Matteo Gambarini, while Emanuele Costa (Team Ratti) comes before Alfredo Saccone and the tough Carlo Alberto Fossati in the coveted OVER40 ranking.
Women’s hard swim was dominated by Camilla Montalbetti in front of the tough Marta Carnelli (Phoenix) and Sara Petrolli (Rari Nantes).
In the special “natural” ranking Marta Carnelli triumphs solo, while Clizia Borrello (Natatio Master Team Novara) wins the OVER40 ranking ahead of Arianna Mazzucchelli (Swimmer Inside) and Ekaterina Ayzenberg.
The triumph of the final ranking of the RELAY belongs to the team I Brindatori of Daniele Savia, Filippo Marchini and Diego Fedeli (assisted in a stage by Sandro Vezzani), all also protagonists of the individual rankings, ahead of the women’s only team Vongole senza spaghetti of Camilla Montalbetti, Carlotta Maffezzoli and Sara Bernasconi and the Team Ratti of Rossano Scarpellini, Alfredo Saccone and Bruno Orizio.
The icing on the cake of these rankings is the victory of the special BIG TEAM of Swimmers Inside by Patron Stefano Trentin: in such a challenging year their presence has certainly been representative of a movement that does not give up.
All left to do is to congratulate everyone: to see so many athletes competing for the rankings and meeting from Maccagno to Ischia is really exciting.
ALL YOU NEED IS SWIM!!!!
